The joint venture of the Baltic States, RB Rail AS has launched a tender to select an engineering service provider for the Rail Baltica energy subsystem development, procurement and deployment supervision. Provision of the energy subsystem engineering services is a long-term partnership, which will cover the period until the beginning of train operation on Rail Baltica corridor.
The Rail Baltica energy subsystem includes all required components to ensure the traction of trains such as:
- High voltage feeding lines for connection of traction substation to high voltage electrical grids;
- Traction Substations (adapting voltage to train traction features);
- Overhead Catenary System;
- Electrification Control Command System.
The scope of the announced tender is divided in two phases. During the first phase, the engineering company, amongst many, is requested to perform necessary technical studies such as advanced software simulation of the energy subsystem; to propose technical architecture of the energy subsystem and to draft the technical specification for the deployment contracts. During the second phase, the company will be required to supervise the implementation of the design and construction works.
An important goal of the Rail Baltica project is to build an environmentally sustainable infrastructure. Efficient use of renewable energy to power Rail Baltica is the key element which will make rail transport environmentally friendly and will provide an alternative to the road and air transport in the Baltic States. In the long run, an efficient use of renewable energy will contribute to the climate-neutral mobility in Europe.
The proposal submission deadline for the tender is 11 May, 2020.
