Rail Baltic Estonia has launched a €57 million construction tender for the Ülemiste Linda International Passenger Terminal. Designed by the globally renowned architecture firm Zaha Hadid Architects, the terminal will be one of the most modern and environmentally sustainable transport hubs in the region. It will connect international rail traffic with local transport networks, including trams and buses, playing a key role in the Rail Baltica project to link Estonia and the Baltic states with the rest of Europe.
Anvar Salomets, CEO of Rail Baltic Estonia, commented: “The construction of the Ülemiste terminal brings us one step closer to providing fast and efficient connections to Europe, while opening new opportunities for local businesses. Together with architects, engineers, and builders, we are committed to completing the terminal by 2028, offering travelers a comfortable and sustainable travel experience.”
The terminal was designed in collaboration with the Estonian architecture firm Esplan, with a focus on functionality and architectural excellence. The project incorporates the latest standards of environmental sustainability alongside Zaha Hadid Architects’ distinctive approach to design.
Gianluca Racana, Board Director of Zaha Hadid Architects, highlighted the importance of the terminal:
“The Ülemiste Terminal’s design is defined by its seamless integration with the surrounding environment. Combining exceptional passenger convenience and connectivity within an efficient, 21st-century transport hub, the design meets the highest standards of environmental sustainability.”
Transport hubs like the Ülemiste terminal present unique challenges for construction teams, especially given the extraordinary architectural design. This is not just another project – it is a landmark endeavor that will push the boundaries of engineering and creativity. The terminal’s complex structure and innovative design demand cutting-edge solutions, making this a prestigious opportunity for any builder involved.
Timeline
Construction of the terminal’s main structure will begin in November 2025, with completion scheduled for February 2028. The terminal is set to be fully handed over to the client by October 2028.
