In today’s meeting, Supervisory Board took important decisions for fostering the project’s implementation and approved contracting the British company ATKINS Plc to carry out the projects infrastructure management study. Supervisory Board also approved that the Management Board of RB Rail can start procurements of detailed technical designs for the following sessions in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The updated RB Rail annual budget for 2018 was approved.

On March 20 the first Rail Baltica construction design and supervision contract on the construction design of Rail Baltica’s airport Riga railway station, related infrastructure, and viaduct was signed during a formal event. It was signed by the European gauge project implementer in Latvia “Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas” SIA and the winner of the open international tender – partnership of suppliers from three countries „PROSIV” („Sintagma” (Italy), „Prodex” (Slovakia) and „Vektors T” (Latvia)).

As of March 19, 2018, Mart Nielsen serves as the Chief Technical Officer and Member of Management Board of RB Rail AS. He joins three other Members of the Management Board – Baiba A. Rubesa, CEO, Kaspars Rokens, COO, and Ignas Degutis, CFO.

At the moment, more than 70 procurements are planned to be announced this year as part of the Rail Baltica Global Project in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. After finalising the procurement procedure, the joint venture RB RAIL AS, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications of the Republic of Estonia and French company Egis Rail S.A. have signed a contract on preparation of the feasibility and technical framework study for a rail (light rail or tram) connection from Rail Baltica Ülemiste passenger terminal to the Tallinn passenger port (Vanasadam) on February 27, 2018. The contract price is 170,984 EUR, excluding VAT.

According to the results of the open competition, the joint venture RB Rail AS and German company ETC Transport Consultants GmbH has signed the contract on preparation of the operational plan of the Rail Baltica railway on 22nd of February, 2018.  The contract price is 499 340,00 EUR, excluding VAT.  

On the occasion of the centenary of the Baltic States, Baltic and international public is invited to participate in an entertaining educational campaign “A Trip to Rail Baltica future” to share their vision on Rail Baltica travel and to learn of one’s readiness to grasp opportunities offered by Rail Baltica and modern technologies.

On Wednesday, 14 February, the Ministry of Public Administration of the Republic of Estonia approved the spatial plan for the Rail Baltica railway in Estonia, leading to setting of the final route and preliminary design of the railway in this northern Baltic state. The spatial planning for the entire line was approved in Latvia by the decision of the Latvian Government in August, 2016, and followed by approval of the Lithuanian Government in January, 2017 for their respective section from Kaunas to the Lithuanian – Latvian border in Lithuania*. In the light of Estonia’s decision, the spatial territorial planning and preliminary technical design of the Rail Baltica railway in the Baltic states has been finalised.

With the decision to use Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Rail Baltica project implementation, RB Rail AS has announced an open competition “Development of detailed BIM (Building Information Modelling) strategy for Rail Baltica railway”.  Proposals shall be submitted electronically by 8 March 2018, by 15:00 o’clock.

RB RAIL AS, the joint venture of the three Baltic States, with the support of the project’s national implementing bodies – Rail Baltic Estonia, Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas and Rail Baltica statyba – announces the milestone international two-day event of the Rail Baltica project – the Rail Baltica Global Forum 2018 on 10 – 11 April, Tallinn, Estonia and opens registration for the event.

On January 26, the first tender for detailed technical design of the railway line in Latvia has been announced for sections Upeslejas – Riga Central Station, Tornkalns – Imanta, Riga Airport – the Misa river, covering approximately 57 km of the railway line. The joint venture of the three Baltic States RB RAIL AS has announced restricted competition for “Design and design supervision services for the construction of the mainline section through Riga” that is procured for the benefit of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia. Proposal submission deadline for the tender is February 28, 2018.

On 15th January, 2018, the shareholders of RB RAIL AS – “Rail Baltic Estonia” OU, “Eiropas dzelzceļa līnijas” SIA and “Rail Baltica statyba” UAB – have approved a new Supervisory Board with the following members: Riia Sillave, CEO of “Rail Baltic Estonia”, Edvīns Bērziņš, Chairman of the Board of “Latvijas Dzelzceļš” VAS, Anti Moppel, Member of Supervisory Board of “Rail Baltic Estonia” OU, Karolis Sankovski, CEO of “Rail Baltica Statyba” UAB, Vineta Rudzīte, Deputy Legal Director on administrative issues and Head of Secretariat of Presidents’ Council of “Latvijas Dzelzceļš” VAS, and Arenijus Jackus, Director of Rail Baltica Coordination Department at “Lietuvos geležinkeliai” UAB.

On January 23, 2018, Rail Baltica official implementers held a press conferences to present the progress of the Rail Baltica project implementation in the three Baltic states and plans for this year.
