Rail Baltica railway overpass construction works are continuing intensively in Riga. At the end of July, BERERIX, the builder of Rail Baltica’s Riga Central Node, will start the construction of the Dzirnavu Street railway overpass. During the construction of the overpass from July 24 to August 31 on Dzirnavu Street, in the section from Satekles Street to Turgeneva Street, all types of vehicle traffic and pedestrian movement will be restricted and partially closed, while the section from Kļavu Street to Abrenes Street will be closed completely. Before the start of the works on Dzirnavu Street, full four-lane traffic will be restored on Lāčplēša Street.
Currently, in the Dzirnavu Street area of the Rail Baltica project, the final stage of foundation construction is underway, and the construction of supporting walls and nearby mechanically reinforced earth embankment has been completed. After completing the preparatory works, the construction of the new railway infrastructure will also commence. The construction works scheduled from July 24th to August 31st include the installation of the railway track, reconstruction of the engineering networks on both sides of the street, and the renovation of the intersection of Dzirnavu, Turgeņeva, and Abrenes streets.
The most significant changes when starting the construction of the Dzirnavu Street railway infrastructure are as follows:
Access to and from the platforms of Riga Central Railway Station will not be closed for train passengers coming from Dzirnavu Street. Access to the platforms will be provided from the northern or Satekles Street side of the railway infrastructure.
During the construction works of the newly built Dzirnavu Street railway infrastructure, all vehicular traffic and pedestrian flow will be completely closed in the construction zone. Car drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians are advised to follow the signs placed in the city and plan alternative routes for transportation in advance.

The central part of the Dzirnavu Street railway infrastructure was built in the early 20th century, from 1912 to 1914, and over time, the infrastructure has been expanded several times by adding new structures (tracks, supporting walls, etc.) and expanding the railway embankment on both sides. The reconstruction of the Dzirnavu Street railway infrastructure in the Rail Baltica project is planned in several stages – after the completion of the southern part of the infrastructure, the dismantling works of the current infrastructure in the northern part will begin.
