German and Northern European journalists visit Rail Baltica

To promote transparency, strengthen international cooperation, and share updates on project developments, Rail Baltica recently hosted a group of journalists from the German-Northern European Program in Riga. During the event, Ģirts Rūda, Member of the Supervisory Board of RB Rail—the project’s central coordinator—and Baiba Zauere, a Management Board Member at Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas, emphasized the strategic significance of Rail Baltica. The journalists, representing Germany, the Nordic countries, and the Baltic states, were informed about the project’s role in bridging a critical gap in European transport infrastructure by connecting the Baltic region to the broader European rail network via two trans-European TEN-T corridors.

Ģirts Rūda underscored Germany’s essential involvement in the project, stating, “We are pleased to welcome these journalists. The historical and ongoing connection between the Baltics and Germany is evident, with Germany playing a vital role in Rail Baltica. Contracts with German companies have exceeded €85 million, and their expertise is invaluable.”

Whereas Baiba Zauere highlighted the broader significance of these interactions. “With the collaboration of over 300 international and Baltic partners, and significant financial backing from the European Union, we are advancing toward a more connected and sustainable future for Europe. We appreciate the interest from international media and look forward to engaging with both global and local outlets to discuss the project’s progress, impact, and broader promotion,” she said.

The German-Northern European Program serves as a platform for fostering dialogue among Germany, the Nordic countries, and the Baltic states, emphasizing their shared interest in political and social developments. This initiative reflects the close historical ties and Germany’s significant role as a key trading partner and cultural influence in the region.
