On 1 February 2019 the Government of Finland decided to establish a limited liability company Oy Suomen Rata AB. Its subsidiary, the Rail Baltica company, is expected to become a shareholder of RB Rail AS, the joint venture of the Rail Baltica project.

Karolis Sankovski assumes the role of the Chairperson of the RB Rail AS Supervisory Board
On 10 January 2019, the Supervisory Board of RB Rail AS elected Karolis Sankovski as its Chairperson and Riia Sillave and Edvīns Bērziņš as Vice-Chairpersons. According to the Shareholders’ Agreement and the Statutes the Supervisory Board, the Chairperson and two Vice-Chairpersons are elected on an annual rotation basis.
RB Rail AS is looking for a recruitment service provider to attract new highly skilled employees
The RB Rail AS employee recruitment plan indicates hiring more than 30 new specialists in 2019. It is planned that the number of employees working in the joint venture will continue to increase also in 2020.

The final Detailed Technical Design tender announced for the Rail Baltica line in Estonia
On November 27, 2018, the Rail Baltica Joint Venture announced the procurement for design and design supervision services for the Rail Baltica railway line in Estonia from Pärnu to the Estonian-Latvian border. This marks the beginning of the design procurement for the final section in Estonia.
Mineral Material Supply Studies for the Rail Baltica Railway Construction
RB Rail AS has carried out two desk studies on the supply of mineral materials for the construction of the Rail Baltica railway line in Latvia and Lithuania. Both studies were carried out by SIA Geo Consultants in cooperation with UAB Geobaltic and was completed in August 2018. In Estonia similar study was done by AS Teede Tehnokeskus in 2017 on behalf of Rail Baltic Estonia OÜ.
RB Rail AS annual meeting with Lithuanian Railways
The annual meeting between the Rail Baltica Joint Venture and the Lithuanian Railways took place on 20 November in Vilnius. The RB Rail team, headed by Ignas Degutis, acting CEO and Chairperson of the Management Board talked presented current priorities, such as detailed technical design of the railway line, efforts to achieve sustainable Rail Baltica financing, cooperation with Finland and Poland as well as progress with the key strategic studies – operational plan and infrastructure management plan.
Guidelines for Rail Baltica architectural, landscaping and visual identity to be developed in close cooperation with Baltic stakeholders
The joint venture of the three Baltic states RB Rail AS has commenced the development of the Architectural, landscaping and visual identity guidelines for the railway infrastructure elements of Rail Baltica. These guidelines will provide harmonised solutions for the design of stations, railway bridges, signage, noise barriers, animal passages and other structures to be applied in further development of Rail Baltica as a truly cross-border project uniting the three Baltic states. Those solutions will be economically and technically feasible, standardized and innovative to be used during the design and ultimately – construction of the Rail Baltica line and infrastructure objects. In addition, the guidelines will set out the accessibility requirements for people with limited mobility as well as public safety requirements.
Rail Baltica team learning from UK BIM experience
On November 7, Rail Baltica Global Project team consisting of technical experts from RB Rail AS, SIA Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas and AB Lietuvos geležinkeliai met with representatives from Crossrail and High Speed 2 (HS2) to learn more about their experiences of implementing BIM systems in their projects.
Climate change impact on the Rail Baltica railway to be assessed
The joint venture of the three Baltic states RB Rail AS is progressing with a study, which assesses the climate change impact on the design, construction, maintenance and operations of the Rail Baltica railway. On November 14 the RB Rail AS hosted a meeting with the institutions involved in the project and research company to discuss the initial findings, to identify the critical environment elements at different railway sections and to review the first risk mitigation strategies. The main objective of the final study is to be prepared for upcoming climate changes during the whole lifecycle of the project.
