Procurement list of 2017 and the procurement procedures of the Rail Baltica project to be presented in the three Baltic countries

On 24th and 25th of April 2017, an international two-day event “Rail Baltica Global Forum 2017 – Building A New Economic Corridor” will take place at the Radisson Blu Hotel Latvija in Riga, Latvia, discussing the implementation process of the Rail Baltica project. The Second Day of the event “Industry Suppliers’ Day” held on April 25, 2017, will be specially dedicated to the topics related to the project’s procurement. All the potential project’s suppliers are invited to take part in the event in order to access detailed information about the forthcoming procurement of this year and their time schedule, as well as to meet their potential partners. This year, there are more than 40 procurement that will be announced in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

“RB Rail AS” submits a new application for EU funding for Rail Baltica

On February 6, 2017, “RB Rail AS” submitted a new application to the 2016 CEF Transport Call for Proposals. So far, the three Baltic states and the joint venture “RB Rail AS” have received two grants designed under the European Union funding instrument Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for the construction of the Rail Baltica railway, having signed Grant Agreements to a total value of 765 million euros. The CEF contribution will make up 85% of total eligible costs, giving financial support of up to a maximum of 633 million euros for the implementation of the project.

Edvīns Bērziņš approved as the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of “RB Rail AS”

On Friday, January 20, a new Chairman of the Board of the railway line Rail Baltic/Rail Baltica project coordinator, the joint venture of the three Baltic States “RB Rail AS”, was approved. The new chairman is Latvian representative Edvīns Bērziņš, the Chairman of the Board of “Latvijas Dzelzceļš” VAS, who is replacing the previous Chairman of the Board, Lithuanian representative and the Director of “Rail Baltica statyba” Dainius Budrys.

Announcement of an open competition for the Design Guidelines of the Rail Baltic/Rail Baltica railway

The Joint Stock Company RB Rail AS announces an open competition “Design Guidelines for Rail Baltic/Rail Baltica Railway” for which proposals to be submitted by 3rd March, 2017. Rail Baltic/Rail Baltica is the largest infrastructure project in the Baltic States to date and it envisages construction of a new, EU gauge double-track electrified railway line (Tallinn – Riga – Kaunas – Warsaw) to eliminate the technical bottleneck due to the gauge differences (1520 vs.EU 1435 mm). This project is part of the TEN-T North Sea-Baltic corridor. The procurement and subject matter is co-financed by Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).

Rubesa: next year’s tasks of the Rail Baltic/Rail Baltica project – to achieve project maturity and implement efficient use of resources

On November 30, 2016 an international conference organized by the Ministry of Transport of Republic of Latvia named “Progress of project Rail Baltic/Rail Baltica 2016” was held in Riga, where the representatives of the ministries and implementing bodies informed about their achieved progress in each of the Baltic states. Among the spokesperson in the conference were representatives from the three Baltic states including the CEO and Chairperson of the Board of the joint venture RB Rail AS –Baiba Rubesa.

Progress of Rail Baltica 2016 Conference

The conference gathered the responsible ministries and representatives of project implementers from the Baltic States to discuss the progress made in each country, affirming the unity of the Baltic States in the intention to introduce a fast, safe and environmentally friendly rail connection with Europe.
