Spanish embassy representatives meet with RB Rail to discuss Rail Baltica progress

Mr José Andrés Santos Herrán, Deputy Head of Mission at the Spanish Embassy, and Mr Jaime Ramón Fernández Sánchez, Attaché for Commercial and Economic Affairs, met with Ms Kitija Gruškevica, Board Member of RB Rail AS, to introduce the Spanish Embassy’s representatives to the Rail Baltica project and discuss its current progress.

As a key supplier and partner in the Rail Baltica initiative, Spanish businesses play an essential role in its success. This greenfield megaproject, the first of its kind in the Baltic region, has greatly benefited from Spain’s extensive experience in high-speed rail and large-scale infrastructure projects.

“We had a very productive meeting regarding Rail Baltica, one of the most important railway infrastructure projects at present,” noted Mr  Fernández Sánchez, Attaché for Commercial and Economic Affairs.

“This is not just a Baltic initiative but a geopolitically significant project for Europe, heavily supported by the EU. It is crucial that we maintain close cooperation with our EU partners, keeping them informed and updated on our progress,” said Ms Gruškevica.

The relationship between Rail Baltica and Spain goes beyond a typical client-supplier dynamic. The project collaborates with Spain’s national railway company, facilitates exchange visits to adopt best practices, and relies on the expertise of Spanish professionals who have relocated to the Baltics specifically to contribute to the project.
