On Monday, April 24, during his state visit to Latvia, President of Estonia H.E. Mr Alar Karis together with President of Latvia H.E. Mr Egils Levits will visit the construction site of the Rail Baltica international station in Riga and meet with the implementers of the Rail Baltica project.
Rail Baltica is the largest highspeed railway infrastructure project in the Baltic region, representing a historic collaboration between the Baltic countries. By connecting the region to the European gauge railway network, it will unlock significant opportunities for both passenger and cargo transportation, strengthen the security of the Baltics, and foster closer connectivity with Europe.
During their visit to Rail Baltica, President Karis with his delegation and President Levits will also meet with the management of the Rail Baltica delivery organizations – the central project coordinator joint venture RB Rail AS and the national implementing body in Latvia SIA “Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas”, who will inform the presidents about the progress of Rail Baltica implementation, priorities, and other topical questions. Visit to Rail Baltica will be part of President Karis’ three-day state visit to Latvia.
The construction of Rail Baltica Riga Central Node is the most significant and far-reaching infrastructure project currently underway in the city, shaping its physical landscape, mobility, and development potential for several decades to come. In addition to the modern infrastructure of the station, removing the embankment will also facilitate functional connectivity between the parts of the city that were previously separated by the railway. The construction of a new railway bridge will allow for a convenient connection for pedestrians and cyclists between the banks of the Daugava.
